Painting converted Havocs

More Word Bearers on the production line! This time, the converted/fixed up eBay marines.

Edit. The title is a lie, one guy is actually a Legionary on a 32mm base.

Painting

Start with the armor: Speed painted Word Bearers armor. I also basecoated the base, and painted this guy's special sandbags (Filthy Brown, Agrax Earthshade, Filthy Brown drybrush, Bonewhite drybrush).

Move on to the details:

• Face (medium skintone)
• Skulls and bone
• Medium leather (straps)
• Green plasma coils for the lascannon glow effect
• Filthy cloth on the Dark Angel helmet wing (just Dark Angels Green on the helmet itself)
• Painting scrolls
• eyes
• Brown hair
• ghostly flames
• Painting the chapter icon of the Serrated Sun
  
• Painting the legion icon of the Word Bearers

Include some fun freehands wherever possible.

Base

• Painting cobblestone (Contrast base)
• Painting marble

Missile launcher smoke

The metal missile launchers look extremely boring with their flat ends. I decided on doing some sort of smoke effect, inspired by the muzzle flare done on these Blood Pact cultists.

First, I glued a very small pin into the model to better secure the cotton wool.

Superglue the cotton wool onto the pin.

Paint around the muzzle using Bloodletter.

Paint most of the cotton wool using heavily diluted Basilicanum Grey. Then undiluted just on the top.

Finished!
