After a copious amount of time in the box, here's a Dark Apostle to lead my new and improved Word Bearers.
Conversion
I find his mace comically small, given the scale of other weapons in the setting.
So here's a Kromlech bit instead, from a kit called "Chaos Legionary Maces."
Cut using precision side cutters, pin and glue using superglue.
Sub-assemblies
Lots of them! Stuff that's mostly armor was primed Leadbelcher, stuff that's mostly cloth (plus the head) was primed Wraithbone.
Painting
Apply some painting tips, starting with the big ones:
- warm white cloth, then paint the armor pieces on the cloak-assembly Leadbelcher by hand
- Word Bearers armor (drybrush on Leadbelcher primed pieces, edge on cloak-assembly)
- Pale skin and Dark metal on the head-assmebly
- Light leather (Contrast) on the pistol holder straps, belts and bags
- Medium leather (Contrast) on the Disciple shoes and Apostle pistol holder
- ghostly flames
- scroll also on the book
- Dark gold
- Candles on the backpack and one Disciple
- Bone (Contrast) on the censer-skull
- Traditional metallic armor on any remaining silver elements
Then I let a bit of Blood Angels Red into the largest runes on the scrolls and book, put Waystone Green in the gem on the chest, and painted the blood dripping off the book with Blood for the Blood God!
Word Bearers icon on the shoulderpad.
Base
Marble for the statue fragments, cobblestone colors for the mulched up ruins in between.
