Painting Karanak

Introduction

I looked at the painting instructions that came along with the Flesh Hounds and discovered that the technique is very similar to the Warhammer TV video that I based  the squad on, although the colors are subtly different. And so I decided to try it out on the boss-doggo himself: Karanak, the Hound of Vengeance.

Preparation

A simple lava base is not good enough for this bad boy. I drew the outlines of his feet on the base.

Then I glued on some cork where the feet will be.

Perfect fit.

Spray paint

Spray both the model and the base Chaos Black, then just the model with Mephiston Red.

Lava base

Painting the body

Paint the bumps and fur with Charred Brown.

Wash overal Druchii Violet.

Highlight the red with Gory Red.

Then Gory Red mixed with Orange Fire.

Highlight the violet/brown with a mix of Cold Grey and Heavy Violet (approximating Warpfiend Grey).

Then with Reaper Spectral White. The instructions called for Ulthuan Grey, but this color has a slight purple tint to it.

Paint the eyes, but no pupils.

Paint the volcanic rock beneath the skulls.

Leathery membrane; skulls and claws; bright flame

Brassy Brass basecoat on the collars and Khorne symbols.

Glue to base

Drill a hole in the base, glue using superglue. Do a light coat of Munitorum Varnish.

Finishing touches

Finish the brass

Finished!
