My usual approach to mobile games is: when a period comes up where I don't have access to my regular hobby stuff, e.g. holidays or whatnot, install a bunch of games, play each until I hit the pay-to-win wall, delete, repeat. There are very few that make the cut - as in, they're not cash cows, but actual enjoyable games. This is one of them.
It will also depress you.
This War of Mine is a dark survival game where you point-and-click control a couple of civilian survivors taking shelter during a war. No context is given but it resonates heavily with the ongoing war in Ukraine. The horrors of war - lack of food, violence, uncertainty, depression - hit you at every turn. Just when it's going well, armed strangers arrive in the night to rob you and hurt one of your people. Your best explorer catches a cold and becomes a burden instead. You make the decision to kill someone for food and your whole group becomes depressed. Remember, they are not soldiers, just people trying to get by.
All this is very reminiscent of XCOM. Expect to loose a couple of games very, very quickly until you figure out the basics - there is no tutorial. In this was of mine, you are alone and must be self-sufficient.
I played, and played, and played for days, coming close to survival (victory?) only to loose by happenstance each time. Then I finally made it. And I didn't play again.
No feel-good fireworks during this game. But it is a very good game still.
