Another XCOM-like. Yeah, I really like these. Some points similar to the Necromunda game.
As seems to be common with the Warhammer-based games that I play, the visuals are magnificent. I loved the character portraits, the in-game models, everything. Even the cheeky hack of having the characters "speak" in unintelligible mechanical mumbles (and thus probably avoiding voice actors) added flavor.
The XCOM-like mechanics are cool and the adaptation to the Adeptus Mechanicus flavor was also delightful. I did enjoy making melee killing machines out of my tech priests, and also gun platforms that could level necron bosses in a single turn.
And here's the problem. While the game was difficult at first, that was mostly because I had to discover the inner workings. Once I started scribbling down the necron runes into a notebook (I refused to look them up online), as well as understanding how combat works, and accumulating experience to a tipping point, everything became easy. One of my tech priests could walk across the map in a single turn and deliver a huge amount of damage in melee. The others became ranged gunners with every possible upgrade. In the final mission, the boss appeared, and then he was gunned down in a single turn.
All in all, the game was satisfying to play and a great experience. The difficulty curve needs adjustment. I enjoyed my playthrough, but I will not go at it again.
