Painting Neutral Heroes 3... plus a couple more

This month's batch of heroes to paint include the box of Neutral Heroes 3, plus a couple more, including two versions of Bronn. We agreed on brown rim for the neutral stuff, and woodland base for the westerosi people. As my client mainly plays Lannisters, and just cannot have crossbowmen without Bronn, I suggested to paint one neutral variant (with purple cloth) and one Lannister-aligned variant (red cloth, Lannister base). That's just fine, I can batch paint with Kevan Lannister. I half-painted his mini last time but he was taken away for a tournament. Time to finish everything.

Original state

Everybody else pretty much looked like Shae, except in the picture below I already re-basecoated the skintone.

Painting

Apply Contrast basecoats across the miniatures in preparation for:

I decided on a burgundy experiment, with Sigvald Burgundy then Druchii Violet.

Highlight Pink Horror (Warlord Purple + Bonewhite), then Heavy Skintone.

Take the above painting tips to completion. Any brown details not included (including the basecoat on the brown minis on pants and stuff) get a wash of Agrax Earthshade, then highlight with a mix of browns from the wet palette.

I don't know why I like this screaming idiot so much, but I do. Inspired by the cover art, I painted his shirt Nighthaunt Gloom (it looks dirty over brown!), then highlight Electric Blue. Rusty metal chains. Bonewhite teeth, then drown the mouth in Agrax Earthshade.

Then I added to more minis to the batch, painting their cloth Dark red. Apply some of the above.

Traditional metal across all the metallics. Shiny gold a couple of details. Dark wood but use the existing basecoat instead of Wyldwood. Blond hair for Kevan. Medium skintone.

Kevan's red leather gloves and boots

Basecoat Cygor Brown.

Coat Flesh Tearers Red.

Highlight Bloody Red, then Orange Fire.

Finishing touches

That concluded most of the painting.

Except on Shae. The mini does show a lot of skin (hue hue), so I decided on a careful approach - see this mini.

Also Female face and Makeup above the eyes.

Cracked earth base

Agrellan Earth over Heavy Brown.

Agrax Earthshade.

Drybrush Khaki, then Bonewhite.

After varnish, decorate with tufts. Make sure they still fit the holder in the box.

More basing

Finished!
