Picking up where we left off, the adventurers started their combat encounter against a gargantuan Neothelid. I was really stoked into doing stuff to them. But the first spell, cast by Antrius, was Otto's Irresistible Dance. And so the worm took an Ice Storm, a suped up Fireball, and a suped up Harm to the face before doing anything. Then it dodged through moonbeams, blights and more fireballs, with the bard successfully saving against a Feeblemind[1]. By the time Solid reached melee range, the worm was already in a bad spot. At least it got to swallow Antrius. And then Szivem. And then it died.
Obviously, it was time to loot it. So the adventurers went in to hack at its appendages, and the princess even crawled inside its acid filled gut.
Giving just enough time for mind flayers to arrive, guarded by two scaladar with brains in jars for faces.
Apparently the mind flayers don't have anything at range, and they dodged through Hypnotic Pattern and Fireball before closing in.

We ended the session mid combat, and reconvened a week later to have the mind flayers stun half the party. It was fun, although the mind flayers were already weakened by the barrage of spells, so they died fast.
With that, the party tested its options. They had two force fields, one black rock door that causes madness, and a magic portal. They decided to have a long rest.
...
Cue invisible duergar ambush with mind flayer support.
The dwarves were easy to take care of, but their only role was to hold the adventurers down while the ilithids closed in. The party consumed most of its resources, and I managed to suck out Ireth's brains, killing her instantly.[2]
So obviously the only reasonable course of action was to get down to sleep, with no guards posted. Groin's Weapon of Warning awakened them to a bunch of haggard ettins approaching.
No issue for this level of a party, but 3 mind flayers also slinked out of the shadows.
The enemies were ground down, but at one point all the adventurers were stunned and/or unconscious.
We ended the session there, to even more despair.
[1] To be honest, that would have been equivalent to a character death.
[2] With sounds effects and all. The look on the players' faces was priceless.
