Classical method
Heavy Brown basecoat.
Dark Fleshtone patches.
Wash Agrax Earthshade.
Drybrush Bonewhite.
Contrast layering
Prime White or Wraithbone.
Basecoat of diluted Skeleton Horde.
Coat all the fur, as well as some parts of the skin with diluted Snakebite Leather.
About half of the previous area gets a coat of diluted Gore Grunta Fur. Then half of that diluted Wyldwood.
Finish off with a coat of diluted Black Templar across the spine of the wolf.
Contrast blending variants
Main blending method
Basecoat Agrax Earthshade.
While still wet, color the back and tail using, top to bottom: Black Templar, Cygor Brown, Garaghak Sewer. Use Agrax to blend the transition.
Once dry, reinforce the colors by placing another patch in the middle of the previous one. Feather out the transition.
Also works with Wyldwood.
Drybrush Khaki.
Variant: Gore Grunta Fur filter
This works with any of the colors above. Basecoat and blend in a large patch. Wait for it to dry.
It's Garaghak Sewer in the photo.
Coat overall with 2:1 diluted Gore Grunta Fur. Then proceed to drybrushing.
Variant: Reikland Fleshshade filter
Start with any of the colors above; in this case, the patches are Cygor Brown and Black Templar. Blend and wait to dry.
Paint Reikland Fleshshade in the middle of the remaining Agrax spots, then feather out.
Proceed to drybrushing.
Contrast triple blend variants
Main blending method
Basecoat with a light color, such as Seraphim Sepia.
While still wet, paint a large patch of a darker color, such as Gore Grunta Fur, in the middle. Then paint an even darker color, such as Cygor Brown, in the middle of that. Use any of the three colors back and forth to blend the patches. Follow up with a drybrush of a lighter color, such as Off White.
