Astra Militarum Leman Russ finished!

Painting an Astra Militarum Leman Russ

Introduction

I magnetized and electrified this Leman Russ - time to paint it. I did this in parallel with the Chimera so go see that for any extra details.

Adding a LED searchlight to an Astra Militarum Leman Russ

Introduction

After a month and a half sitting in subassemblies... both of my tanks are now complete. Doing the second one was a lot faster; I took inspiration from the Chimera.

Weapon wall for Astra Militarum vehicles

I needed something to hold all my magnetized weapons. I did something like this previously but here's what I've learned since.

Magnetizing Astra Militarum Leman Russ sponsoons

Introduction

I will not follow this tutorial as I don't want the pieces to "push fit" a.k.a. scrape all the paint off each other. I will actually magnetize all the pieces such that they can be used interchangeably, as well as be mounted on an armory wall later on.

Magnetizing a Leman Russ Punisher/Demolisher/Executioner turret

Right off the bat: the turrets of the battle tank and the second variant are not compatible. So let's stick to this one first.I followed this tutorial with very few differences and I picked up some details from the Chimera turret

Chaos Daemons vs Aeldari, 16.03.2022

2000 points of the Scouring

Mostly Khorne Daemons with Be'lakor on the right, wraith constructs on the left. This player optimized terrain is great, but it presents its own challenges.

Speed painting competition

We had the speed painting competition last weekend, I painted this Contrast-based NMM golden marine. I got first place with it! Check out this linked post for a heavy metal-style edge highlighted green marine that took second. Not much to add, it was a fun and primarily social experience.

Speed painted NMM golden marine (White Minotaurs)

Introduction

For the speed painting competition, I decided on going all out with a Contrast-based NMM effect. I looked for a golden-armored chapter, and lo and behold, there are several. I picked the White Minotaurs, as they have the most actual gold coverage. This is the test miniature to see if the color scheme is viable in the given timeframe. Spoiler: it is. Here are both models (test and competition) painted.

Chaos Daemons vs Necrons, 09.03.2022

Introduction

The first 2000 points game of 9th edition! I had no idea what I was doing, so I built on the Khorne lists that I played in previous 1000-1500 points games. And of course there's Big B himself, shoring up the center.

Age of Sigmar tournament

We had a local tournament last weekend. Much to my surprise, I was able to participate. Here are the 3 games I played:

I pulled off 2 wins and a tie, which was the same as the Lumineth Realmlords (my nemesis!). I lost off tiebreakers, thus taking second place. For some reason I also got a prize, so here's me proudly holding on to it.

I enjoyed the list that I played, even though I was consistently disappointed by the lack in damage output. Except for the Great Unclean One, gods bless his Fourfold blade-carrying nurglings. I guess I am forever destined to play grindy survivor armies that win on points.

Legion of the First Prince vs Sylvaneth, 06.03.2022

Introduction

The final game of the tournament had me facing the beautifully painted Sylvaneth in The Veins of Ghur.

Legion of the First Prince vs Lumineth Realmlords, 05.03.2022

Introduction

The second game of the tournament had me facing my dreaded and hated foe, the Lumineth Realmlords in Power in Numbers.

Battle round 1

The Lumineth ceded priority, so I cautiously advanced doing Ferocious Advance as well. I put down a squad of Plaguebearers as a vanguard.

Legion of the First Prince vs Soulblight Gravelords, 05.03.2022

Introduction

The first game of the tournament had me facing the undead hordes of the Soulblight Gravelords in Feral Foray. The enemy deployment consisted of a couple of heroes and some Felbats.

Dungeon of the Mad Mage: Return to the surface

Just as we were minding our own business mining mithrill, we got a surprise visit from Sylvia[1]. She led us to a portal residing on the current 6th level of the dungeon, that would take us back to level 2 (and thus circumnavigate the cave-in) in return for hitching a ride. I sacrificed a dagger to the portal[2], and off we were to sell our hard earned loot. We went through immediately, sold all our trash and slept in for the night. I passed through first and got some sort of negative effect, leaving me to feel unlucky. Oh well.

Be'lakor finished!

Painting Be'lakor

Introduction

I started painting Be'lakor last year in October. It has been a long and drawn-out journey, but here he is.

LEDs revisited in Be'lakor's lava base

I took Be'lakor to a game and just from transport and play all the LEDs and the battery dislodged and all the duct tape started coming off. It was a hot mess.

February review and March goals

Woohoo!

OK, got that out of my system. February has been a lot better. I painted both my tanks (only the Chimera is published so far) and Be'lakor (keep an eye out this coming Thursday). March should see me painting a bunch of dark elves (also shelved since last autumn) and some converted Ogryns, bringing my starting Astra Militarum army to a completely painted stage. I don't honestly know where I'll go next after that.

Gaming wise, while I only got one game of Age of Sigmar in the past month, I do have big plans. There is a local tournament this weekend that I'm planning to join, and a speed painting competition coming up the weekend after.

D&D is ever trucking forward, with us now exploring the 6th level of the Undermountain. We just had a level up so expect me to Toll the Dead even more frequently.

Overall a highly successful month, and I'm really looking forward to March as well!
