Introduction
For the speed painting competition, I decided on going all out with a Contrast-based NMM effect. I looked for a golden-armored chapter, and lo and behold, there are several. I picked the White Minotaurs, as they have the most actual gold coverage. This is the test miniature to see if the color scheme is viable in the given timeframe. Spoiler: it is. Here are both models (test and competition) painted.
NMM gold
I decided to test something different than my usual go-to, as the marine is quite a large surface compared to what I've done so far.
Prime Wraithbone, then paint Iyanden Yellow. I strived for a smooth layer, with no pooling.
First lowlight: Nazdreg Yellow.
Second lowlight: Nazdreg Yellow.
Finally, Cygor Brown.
So far, around 1 hour.
Take a break from the gold to paint the gun, the metal bits on the base as well as the base rim Black Templar. Also paint any ribbed joints.
Then coat over again with Basilicanum Grey, achieving a pretty good black basecoat. Also coat over the concrete ruins (the ground part of the base) at this point.
Thick white highlights.
Glaze over all the armor Iyanden Yellow to mesh the colors.
Return with Dead White for superhighlights and gem effect-type spot highlights.
White it dries, paint the purity seal with Skeleton Horde and Blood Angels Red.
NMM silver
This includes the gun and some bits on the base, as per the painting tip.
Remaining details
Paint the eyes black. At this point also go over the rim of the base, as the Contrast probably does not cover the flat surface well. Then some white dots in the eyes to simulate a lens effect.
Black Templar freehand writing on the purity seal.
Chapter symbol
Cover the shoulder pad in Blood Angels Red. Note to self: use a thin layer to avoid pooling.
Once dry, draw the bull head in Grey Seer, then Dead White.
Draw the eyes and nostrils with Gory Red.
Correct the outline of the eyes using Dead White.
