Creating a base for a Great Unclean One/Daemon Prince of Nurgle

Introduction

To pair off with the round base, the Nurgle daemon also needs a square base for Warhammer Fantasy.

Assembly

Magnets are already in place in the feet of the monster. I glued a large metallic washer to a square base (from Mantic).

Create some terrain features using home-made putty. Leave some metal showing where the feet go.

Instead of just adding flocking, I decided to experiment with sculpted terrain - mushrooms. They are placed on the sides and in corners, but consider that the middle of the base will be occupied by the miniature.

Painting the mushrooms

I looked up pictures of mushrooms, and most seem to occupy the brown specter. Of course there are some red and otherwise brightly colored mushrooms, but I didn't want to steer the eye away from the mini.

Sticking to brownish colors, I began by basecoating everything in Bonewhite.

Two of them actually get Heavy Brown caps, while the severely malformed (diseased? rotten?) one to the right gets a wet blend of Bonewhite and Heavy Brown for color variation.

Bonewhite surfaces get washed in Seraphim Sepia.

Brown ones get Agrax Earthshade. Overlap for maximum color variation.

Highlight with Bonewhite.

Basecoat white.

Wash Carroburg Crimson.

Highlight white.

Flocking

For a uniform look across the Nurgle side of the army, create areas on the base with the same flocking as the ocher Plaguebearers: dried grass and blue lichen.

Finished!
