Painting an orc battlestandard bearer

Introduction

Another Warhammer Fantasy model painted for DnD.

Prime

In black, as usual.

Painting the skin

Let the wash pool in the recesses to pop his scars and facial features.

Basecoats

This was mostly a hodge-podge of using up whatever paint was left after painting some parts of the orc command group and the mounted boss.

Basecoat all the brown areas (bone, wood, leather). At this point I also painted 90% the wooden pole in reddish brown.

Basecoat the chainmail, as well as the spikes on the pole and the chains on the flag, in gunmetal.

Lay down the leather brown on all the straps and belts, as well as the pants. Apply black wash on the metallics.

Basecoat the skull and fangs in bonewhite.
Paint the wolf's head as per the grey fur painting tip.

Weather the black armor as per the painting tip.

Black wash and silver drybrush on the chainmail.

Jump a few steps:
- do the bone areas by applying sepia wash overall, then agrax earthshade in the recesses and the tip of the spike.
- dark red basecoat for the flag. 3 coats still resulted in this earthy red, which I decided to leave in place.

Basing

Cover up the base in home made putty.

Then create the rocky base as per the relevant painting tip.

Painting the flag

Paint some lighter red on the raised areas of the flag, then feather it out, similarly to how I paint red cloth.

Paint the desired symbol in black, with a detail brush.
Yes, that is the Warcraft Horde symbol. On a Warhammer miniature. Used in Dungeons & Dragons.

Highlight a symbol with two coats of lighter grey, as per the black cloth painting tip.

Finished!
