Painting the ring-bearer Daemon Prince

Time to paint up the ring bearer, in Word Bearers colors.

Converting the ring-bearer Daemon Prince

Two birds with one stone: one old Daemon Prince bought off eBay and primed white a long time ago; and a conversion idea for this spring's painting competition

Word Bearers vs Imperial Knights, 22.03.2023

After a long hiatus, I jumped at the occasion of a game of 40k. I knew the list was bad on paper against Knights, but this is my all-comers build, and I wanted to see how it goes. Arks of Omen detachments are quite nice, as I can skip the 3 troops. I also built a Highlander-type list (not even troops and transports are duplicated) to prepare for a future event.

Painting a dark trio (priestess and bodyguards)

These 3 are ancient eBay finds, and I have no idea what they are. They might not even be of the same faction. They might be Warhammer Fantasy Dark Elves... but who cares.

Dungeon of the Mad Mage: Magic academy of stupid statues

Back to the academy. We searched the slaughterhouse, to no avail. Then we searched the little girl's room. It had 9 voodoo dolls, for each other student, apparently. I identified one, and proceeded to take out the girl/hag's fingernails and whatnot and replace it with my own spittle, so I can use the dolls as well. I succeeded on all but one.

Next up, we wandered into an alchemy lab with a pool of toxic sludge in the middle. As we were looking around, Selene skimmed the sludge with her robes. Tentacles immediately rose out and pulled her under.

Sigh.

M.A.G.U.S. - Spidery showdown

The adventurers started exploring their small tunnel, leading into a much larger one. As soon as they stepped out from the enclosed space, the giant spider attacked! It was holed up right above the exit, giving it reach to pummel Ylimor into the ground.

MAGUS - Itsy, bitsy spider

The adventurers returned in force to cross the giant chasm. They quickly figured out that the white string was spider's web. First to risk the crossing was Shamil. He doffed his armor and used psionics to lighten his body weight. Let's say he discovered the spider really quickly. Or, rather, the spider discovered him. All the stealth in the world is useless if you are walking around with a shining lamp above your head.

MAGUS - In the garden

The adventurers spent some time to rest and recuperate after their ordeal with the manta rays. This was some quality time with content created by the players, with only occasional comments from me to entice them. Like Daramin burning the sand coming out of his boot[1], at which point I reminded everyone that they're dead tired, injured, all they want is sleep, and not listen to the scratching sounds of burning sand. The party also made sure to set up guards, a system of ropes and bells, and traded sleeping bags[2]. However, the best part was when they tried to cook the cut off wing of a manta using most of their drinking water. I made sure to describe in detail the lack of moisture in the meat, the texture of old leather[3], as well as the urge to vomit coming an hour later.[4]

M.A.G.U.S. - I hate sand

With Ylimor still at the camp site, 3 brave adventurers continued their slog through the sand pits.

M.A.G.U.S. - Into the sand pits

This session saw the return of Cahir after a couple of missed games, so we started off slow, with a long recap and some RP. This involved him looking around the latest dungeon rooms, catching Dalibor looting stuff, and the thief trying to hide the loot by making a pass at the paladin. Yes, this set the mood of the session. No, I will never let this go.

February review and March goals

So, uhh, February passed.

Gaming wise technically worse than January. MAGUS and D&D are staples but Warhammer fell through the cracks. Life can hit very hard when it means to.

At least I got back into at-home hobbying. The miniature for the painting competition is almost done, although I found little joy in it. I had to flex my hobby muscles for a bit before my will and motivation has returned. Now I once again happily paint away. I worked on some little stuff started in November. Eagle eyed viewers could notice that I now just post story backlog instead of any painting articles... hope to be back to our regular schedule soon, as soon as I do have anything to publish.

So, erm, goals. Finish the painting competition miniature. This is a must. Finish the stuff left over from last year. Then, I guess, I will start painting the stuff I assembled this month.
