I painted 5 of these guys a while back, and they dutifully functioned as Chaos Space Marines for a while. I always joked that they throw their shields pretty well... equivalent to bolt pistol shots. I now decided to finish another 5, and WYSIWYG them for 40k.

Chaos Space Marines vs Thousand Sons, 20.08.2024
I painted up two Rhinos, and I immediately got an idea for a new type of list. Previously, infantry blobs were unwieldy due to a large footprint. Now, I could include 3. So I dropped the Land Raider, and switched to Renegade Raiders for the transport-related stratagems. We played mission G: The Ritual.

Painting a Heldrake in Word Bearers colors
I got this guy in 2021 as payment for painting The Triumph of Saint Katherine, partially assembled and primed.

Chaos Space Marines vs Thousand Sons, 15.08.2024
We played mission Q (Supply Drop/Rapid Escalation/Sweeping Engagement) from the Pariah Nexus Tournament Mission Pool. It was my first time facing Thousand Sons, and the introduction lasted about half an hour. They are a very technical army, and require a lot of thought playing with or against.

Painting Free Folk attachments and characters
Along with the Raiders, I got a bunch of characters to paint as well.
Painting Free Folk Raiders
Continuing with the ASOIAF commisions, switching from the Lannisters to the Free Folk. The client basecoats them roughly the same, so I tried to codify my methods here.

Free Folk vs Lannisters, 04.07.2024
One last game before the tournament - A clash of kings. I had hoped to try my second list with this game, but with just one unit of cavalry, the infantry horde marched unto the table. I was way too excited to take pictures at first. This is already the second round. Not much had happened during the first, except I managed to pin the enemy cavalry in place in fear of my outflanking Spearwives. Then I marched up the trappers on the flank to harass Tywin and his halberdiers.

Converting and painting Warp Talons as Night Lords
Another new unit for my Chaos Marines. I had the idea floating in my brain for some time, and I bought some Tyranid Gargoyle sprues a long time ago.

Free Folk vs Lannisters, 27.06.2024
After my string of failures with the Tully double cavalry list, I felt it prudent to go back to my favorite Free Folk infantry horde. I replaced Styr with Harma and the Savage Giant with a spear thrower, just to see how they would work.

July review and August goals
July was wild. I went to a local tournament and have been crowned Romanian ASOIAF champion. I've almost reached my yearly miniature painting target. I had fun and played some other games as well. Then I went on holiday and skipped the second half of the month.
In August, gaming might become scarce. I'm fine with that.
I've got some video games that I need catching up with.
I need to put the finishing touches on the final squad to be painted, thus solidifying my target.
And I need to get some motivation up, as I had been lacking lately.
Painting converted Fallen
Finally something new to paint for my Chaos Marines! I do love my Word Bearers and the paint scheme I devised is quick and great looking, but it does get old after a while.
Converting Fallen to function as Chosen and characters
I decided that I need some Chosen, but I'm honestly sick of painting dark red power armor. So here's a fun idea: I have loads of space marine bodies. By slapping on some green stuff robes, I can paint them up as Fallen. This was super fun, and I ended up hammering out a squad of 10, as well as attachable characters.
