Painting Brimstone Horrors (traditional flames, using washes and glazing)

Introduction

Even with the new codex nerf, Brimstone Horrors are a must. Enough said.

Painting

Start with 2 coats of Sun Yellow on a white primer for a consistent basecoat.

Cassandora Yellow wash on the upper 75% of the minis.

Fuegan Orange wash on the upper half of the minis.

Mix Orange Fire with medium (1:2) and glaze the upper 25% of the minis. Then Bloodletter glaze on the tips of the heads and hands.

Highlight the yellow parts with Fluorescent Yellow. I did highlight the legs, buttocks, and some raised "muscle" areas on the arms, but I concentrated especially on the face and the teeth.

After drying, the Fluorescent Yellow proved to be a bit... too much. Too cold for the warm tones over all the rest of the minis. So I glazed them all over using Lamenters Yellow. This was very nice in unifying the colors and bringing the reds and oranges back towards the yellow spectrum.

White primer for the eyes.

Then paint them in with Electric Blue. This contrasts well with all the orange around the face, but is not strident enough to be dissonant.

Basing

Khaki basecoat and black around the rim. These already look pretty good! Also, this is a sneak peak at the next 5 I've painted using other techniques.

Use the sandy base painting tip.

Finished!
