Repainting Bloodletters (2) with glowing ember swords

Introduction

The last squad of the 30 Bloodletters to be repainted. I decided on following the same scheme and easy basing as before, except for some experiments on the swords to keep things interesting.

Preparation

Cut the Bloodletters off their old tiny bases.

This went mostly smoothly, except for one guy where I cut the toes off. So I made prosthetics out of green stuff.

Then paint any spots where the paint chipped on the feet and claws, as well as the prosthetic toes, with brush-on White Primer.

Painting

Bloodletter skin first and foremost. As I ran out of Bonewhite, I decided on leaving the horns last. Also bronze for the metallic details.

When originally painting these dudes, I decided on splitting the squads by tongue color. The idea was not bad, except the green and turquoise tongues were hard to tell apart. Anyway, I thought of honoring their paint scheme by not repainting the tongues. They were originally painted with a mix of Sick Green and Ultramarine Blue. I first highlighted with Turqoise.

Then Jade Green.

Paint the lower part of the icon simple black. Gory Red and Bloody Red on the dripping blood.

Paint the eyes white (see above), then wash Cassandora Yellow.

Glowing ember swords

Let the fun part begin. Basecoat Black.

Drybrush with a mix of 1:1 Heavy Red and Charred Brown.

Drybrush Bloody Red around the tip and the center.

Mix 1:1 Bloody Red and Hot Orange (an approximation of Wild Rider Red) and edge the blade. Also draw the center line at the tip and in another section closer to the hilt.

Highlight with Hot Orange: the center of the lines, and the spikes along the edge.

Highlight the spikes with Hot Orange. Draw some dots in the lines, as well as in between.

Superhighlight Sun Yellow.

Basing

Apply the lava.

Finished!
