Painting an Ettin

Introduction

Observant readers might recognize this guy from our adventures in the land of the giants. With this paintjob, I aim to apply my Contrast learnings, and improve on them by using even more time-saving techniques.

Prime

Wraithbone.

Contrast!

Start with the largest area: the skin.

Then go for the medium skintone, but apply the highlights by drybrushing to speed up the process.

Lay down the Contrast basecoats for the other parts.

Grey fur loincloth.

Wood for the weapons.

Medium leather satchel.

Light leather straps on the hair, beard and legs.

Skulls and bones. Additional Nazdreg Yellow on the teeth.

I coated the hair and beard in Apothecary White, then drybrushed Dead White at the same time as the fur.
The cloth straps on the stone axe are just Skeleton Horde highlighted with Bonewhite.
The axehead is Basilicanum Grey which applied really badly, but I highlighted/corrected the pooling with Cold Grey and Stonewall Grey.
Eyes

Raised scars get Druchii Violet around them, while deep cut get Carroburg Crimson inside and around.

Basing

Woodland base.

Finished!
