D&D 5E one shot collection - Danger at Blire Manor, part 1

Upon wandering the lands closer to Neverwinter[1], the adventurers were hired by a local lord to explore his uncle's manor house. The old man had gone missing 20 years before, without leaving a will. The manor and estate were abandoned without a clear heir, ransacked  and forgotten. The chances of still finding something are slim, but a 100 gold reward was good enough to spur the party into action.

On the road, the adventurers met a pair of pilgrims who had lost their children. They tried to approach the manor, but saw "dangerous thugs" hanging around and thought better of it. The party promised to look for the kids.

Upon reaching the manor, the adventurers circled to the back, sending in Niko to scout the overgrown grounds. He reached the back door avoiding the swarms of poisonous snakes, but found it locked. With a clear path, all the adventurers sneaked in and scouted the exterior of the house. Niko mounted Ulfgar's shoulder to look into an abandoned room, a latrine, and finally, a room where a man played solitaire.

They pulled back and scouted the ruined stable, where they found a cart and two horses.

The adventurers decided on a diplomatic approach. Ulfgar circled back, while the rest of them hid in the vegetation. Unfortunately, the paladin triggered a snake swarm and was bitten and poisoned. Alas, he made his way to the front gate, and presented himself as a traveling beer salesman. The bandits kept crossbows trained on him, but invited him inside.

At this, the party rushed the gates.

Unfortunately, they bit off more than they could chew. Bandits fired crossbows at them from the upper levels. Once inside, they saw a surrounded Ulfgar. Soon, a half-orc joined the fight, and he proved too much even for their combined might.

Niko died, which was a fitting ending to his unlucky streak. Out of 20 attacks, 1 scored a hit. Out of 3 death saving throws, all were fails.

The rest were knocked out.

... to be continued?
