We recovered from the fight with the chimaeras, I remade my undead minions, and we pushed into what looked like an underground settlement overgrown with spider webs. We were just 3 brave adventurers, plus 4 undead. And the invisible owl, which I remembered to send forth scouting. That chimaera encounter hurt.
The owl brought back word of giant spiders in the streets[1], and we went in to kill them, because that is the theme of our party.
We noticed the smell of cooking coming from a large, intact building, so we went in to investigate. A bugbear and 3 goblins were making goulash, with 2 drow customers eating. The drow attacked and we killed them. To be fair, I yelled at them to surrender, but it came out in a thin, squeaky voice, and I ate some crossbow bolts before putting them down. The goblinoids hid behind the bar during the fight. So we freed them from their manacles and listened to their story, while eating a hearty meal. Xebil, Globby, Bootlick and Earstabber were heading to Skullport with wares to sell, but they were captured by the drow and put to work. I sent them to the goblin market on the level above, to look for employment.
We set out to explore the rest of the settlement, starting with a building guarded by 2 drow warriors. Tari wiggled her eyelashes, but they were unconvinced, so we fought and killed them. The locked door was no match for my lockpicking skill[2] and we discovered a trophy room decorated with the skulls of goblinoids. There was a large bed with a canopy of spider webs and some closets. One hid a chest in the shape of a spider, which I again opened and we looted the insides.
The next building was overgrown with spider webs and had a giant mirror set in the wall. I went close to cast Identify, at which point my image transformed into a giant spider, then into this, and it told me it knew who I am. While I was happy for it, the mirror then fell and shattered.
The next building hid an empty basin with fish painted on the tiles, which seemed to move but they did not actually move. That sounded suspicious, so we inspected them, and I discovered they can be turned. Solid started turning them around, and finally the basin filled with water and an actual fish swam in. I captured it, and it transformed into an elemental gem. Nice. It can go next to all the other single use items we'll never use.
The next building had 11 beds with nightstands. We looted 11 simple robes.
The next building had 3 of these monsters eating a dead troglodyte. We attacked, they tried to run, but we shot them down in the streets.
Next up, an abandoned dwarven house with everything made of stone, and nothing valuable.
And finally, a latrine where a drow was, erm, sitting quietly. We attacked, but it threw at us the chamber pot and tried to run. We cut him down mercilessly.
We thought to rapidly explore some half collapsed corridors before ending the session, but we encountered giant spiders, so that's where next session will start.
