Astra Militarum vs Yellow Scars, 25.05.2022

My third attempt at Tempest of War and the first game against marines in a long time. With Armor of Contempt center stage, I grew tired of opposing armies either ignoring the -1AP or downgrading D2 to D1 so I switched out heavy bolters with multimeltas. I am quite pleased with the change, we'll keep it.

Deployment

Weird triangles. The Scars won both roll-offs for first turn and first redeploy, so I had to deal with 3 Phobos units in my face on the left flank. I redeployed a heroic squad of demonic Conscripts to hold them off.

Converting Ogors into Bullgryns

Introduction

After the Ogryns, I converted the remaining 3 Ogors into Bullgryns. At least these are useful on the battlefield.

Converting Ogors into Ogryns

Introduction

If you compare the pricing of Ogryns and Ogors, you'll notice that 6 models are better than 3 for the same price. Of course, a bit of conversion work is required.

A second attempt at Tempest of War, embracing the return of 7th edition missions (kind of). Lots to learn about terrain and objective placement.

Note the artillery proxies, as well as the daemonic conscripts.

Painting dirty white Bloodletters

Introduction 

The second 5-man batch of the old white primed Bloodletters. I had to re-prime a couple of them due to all the chipping. I broke them off their washers and glued them to 32mm bases. Again, I saw the idea for this paint scheme somewhere, but I don't remember where, so thanks to the original contributor!

Introduction 

I found some old white primed Bloodletters in a box. They've seen action in the past, so some of them presented chipping and such. I selected 5 un-chipped ones, broke them off their washers and glued them to 32mm bases, then prepared them for an alternate paint scheme. Astra Militarum vs Adeptus Custodes, 04.05.2022

During their last battle against the necrons, the nuns had suffered so many losses that Inquisitor Clotilde sanctioned the summoning and conscription of daemons into the army. The Adeptus Custodes obviously could not let this stand.

Deployment

I set up my Basilisk and Manticore proxies in the far left corner, well hidden. The white Deathstrike just waits to be fired. 2 Tank Commanders and Pask hide behind ruins, with 2x20 daemon conscripts up front.

The Rebasening: Daemonettes

It's been more than a year since I went ahead and re-based my Bloodletters to 32mm. The time has come to re-base everything else as well... starting with the Daemonettes.

Dungeon of the Mad Mage: The adventures of the trombone

We regrouped after the fight and tried to get a long rest. No such luck; we were kept awake by the sound of instruments playing a music. An organ and drums no less. After we realized that we need to roll for Concentration after each hour, we gave up and went to hunt down and kill whoever was making the racket.[1] After chasing some giggling apparition, we marched into a room with two duergar playing said instruments.[2] They lacked skill, but they made up for it with enthusiasm. 

April review and May goals

Time flies when you're having fun, and April was... pretty good, actually. Less on the gaming side, with all the holidays, but I still got in two games of Warhammer, some D&D as usual, and last but not least, an unexpected comeback... the first game of MAGUS in more than a year. I count all that as a win.

Hobby wise, I made good progress. I painted both of my tanks and all 3 assassins. Now that the Chaos Space Marines codex has been teased, I started preparing my forces... beginning with all the old marines on 25mm bases. Rebasing is almost complete, and I dipped my toes into painting new models as well.

For May, I expect to get a few more games in... let's see if we can get the MAGUS sessions rolling again. I will continue painting my Chaos Marines, with my immediate goal being to finish the Shadowspear models. And I also got some commission models... wait till you see the dragon!
