Storm King's part 23 - First time in Hekaton’s Palace

After snatching the conch from GUHHH, we take the road back to Goldenfields. The trip is not boring at all, as we again encounter the Green Dragon that really really wants the “Staff of Seth”. He offers us “The Orb of the Dragons”, a powerful artifact that is supposed to be shattered to pieces when in great need, in exchange for our powerful Staff of Seth. Selene will make the deal with the dragon and so we are left with a new powerful artifact that we will never use… I’ll bite my tongue later in the story for this statement.

It seems that in Goldenfields we just find some new rumors that will lead us to Waterdeep and deeper. We need to deliver a bag of something (as the writings are lost in the veil of time we will never know what the bag was all about) and a letter. I suppose it is all for the Loot… I mean for the Glory…  I mean for Honor... I always get this mixed up.[1]

More rumors to be found also in Waterdeep, it seems that some dwarfs are about to be ripped off by their greatest treasure.

The luck is on our side, as someone remembers that we are just in the right place to deliver “The fucking necklace” and so we head to the noble house of Than to get our reward. They receive us with the fucking greatest gratitude and in exchange they offer us two fucking potions (as always not to be used later, because we never do).[2]

Waterdeep is a great town and full of opportunities if you know where to listen, so the Temple of the Mages is a great place to do the listening if you are not afraid of cats or baby dragons. As we are braver than the cats the job is half done already. Ceaslut[3], one of the mages here, maybe the greatest of them all[4], will tell us that we can find a dragon by the name of Roade Oase[5] in the Kryptgarden Forest that will help us. In what way he doesn’t know, but he will gave us two poison resistance potions just in case the things don’t go our way.

What other way to hear rumors you know to be great? Of course drunk people, what did you expect?

We are not disappointed by the drunkenness of Gaspar, our stable boy, that comes along with Ionica[6] from Baverna to warn us about the “Shadows of Myrkul” that where once generals for our long forgotten foe. If we ever meet them we will be wise to run or stupid enough to fight them :)[7]

Rumors, side quests, wisdom - these are no way to keep us busy, we want action and we want it now!!! So the time comes for us to use the shell. Instantly teleports us to a great hall, more like an underwater cave, where everything is glowing.

There are some stairs there that we must explore and see where they take us. So we follow the stairs and the lights until we reach a theater room with a stage where two giants seem to perform and lots of giants, all kinds of them Fire, Frost, Stone, Cloud are listening to the show.

We are politely welcomed by two guardians that are interested  in our business there.

As we find out, the two performers are the daughters of the mighty Hekaton by the name of Mirran and Nym and we tell them all we know about the giant order being disrupted and that we are there to save the day. The two giants are not impressed by our deeds and they offer accommodations for the day, escorted to our rooms by the guards of course.

Paranoid as always (never trust a soul), Sammael and Groin turn themselves invisible and go scouting. It seems that Sammael is stealthier than Groin and he reaches the theater room just in time to find out the malefic plan of the two sisters to kill us. We did not agree to that when we came here so we will do our best to ruin their plan.

As we find out about a third sister that is the one ruling in place of her father missing, Sammael risks it all and invisible goes to her room and pleads our case. The ruling sister seems to believe us and gives the order for us not to be killed and instead for her sisters to be seized and arrested.

[1] Accurate.
[2] I don't remember why were the players mad at this sidequest, but they were, and this description is also accurate.
[3] Chazlauth
[4] May be an overstatement.
[5] A reasonably accurate translation of "Old Gnawbone"
[6] Lil' Johnny
[7] May or may not have happened already in the story - about 8 months have passed since this session. Hue hue hue.
