Painting Inquisitor Kyria Draxus

Introduction

I bought this kit some time ago, along with some classic inquisitors. I disliked the bald head, so I replaced it with one from the Escher kit, sporting a stylish mohawk and a bionic eye. I also disliked her official black color scheme, so I went with something else instead.

Prime

Black, then Grey Seer zenithal. Based on how it later went, a darker grey would have been better... Mechanicus Standard Grey I guess?

Ivory armor

Well... kind of ivory. Start with a really heavy drybrush of Filthy Brown.

Line all joints with Agrax Earthshade.

Layer with a 1:1 mix of Filthy Brown and Bonewhite. Then dilute Bonewhite and glaze some highlights.

Edge highlight Off White, then Dead White.

Purple cape

Basecoat Hexed Lichen.

Royal Purple goes into the folds to darken them down. Wet blend with Hexed Lichen towards the tops.

Druchii Violet into the deepest recesses. Hexed Lichen + Dead White highlights.

Hexed Lichen mixed with Electric Blue for another highlight, then mix in Dead White for the final layer. The blueish hue is pretty cool, but is actually lighter than the previous layer, so I would skip that next time.

Red hair

Yet another red hair experiment.

Basecoat Dark Fleshtone.

Mix in Hot Orange for a layer.

Highlight the tips Filthy Brown.

Fuegan Orange, except the ends of the tips.

Highlight Heavy Goldbrown.

The result is a surprisingly eyecatching earthy dark red hair color.

Dark silver gun

Basecoat Black, then mix Black with Gunmetal for a first layer. Leave only a black line showing.

A layer of pure Gunmetal.

Then Chainmail Silver.

Give it a bluish hue with Drakenhof Nightshade, then a superhighlight of Silver.

Grey bone

As the armor is already aged ivory, I decided on an alternate bone color.
Basecoat Stonewall Grey.

Wash diluted Agrax Earthshade.

Highlight Stonewall Grey, then Grey Seer.

Red dragon

I was inspired by this Warhammer TV tutorial and its unusual shade of red.

I imitated Gal Vorbak Red with a mix of Dark Fleshtone, Warlord Purple and Black.

Wash Nuln Oil.

Layer with the base color (as close as I could match it), then glaze Bloody Red.

Highlight Elf Skintone.

Overall layer 1:3 diluted Blood Angels Red. Looks nice, but I don't think it's worth all the fuss.

At this point I also painted the tongue Electric Blue and highlighted by mixing in Dead White. Finally, the eyes are white.

Remaining details

Paint the purity seal as for Cherubael (which should be a painting tip by now).

Light skintone with eyes and lipsShiny silver bionic eye with Soulstone Blue lens.

Base

Inquisition base, with Polished Gold washed Agrax Earthshade for some faded looks but highlighted again with Polished Gold on the corners.

Finished!
