Note that this was a Valentine's day special adventure. This means that all the enemies were wearing pink suits and ties instead of armor. They threw Valentine's day greeting cards instead of knifes and shuriken. They wielded long roses and other flowery implements instead of weapons. They danced and caressed instead of fighting. Yes, we kept it up all through the evening.
At first, there were plenty of targets. And the adventurers were smart enough to keep to the back lines. The NPCs, good and bad, crashed into each other, flowers held high. Wizards and priests spread the love in the form of walls of fire, explosions, spontaneous bleeding and so on.
Shamil and Cahir downed potions of flame breath. Unfortunately, they were low quality potions bought from dubious traders. They both exploded in their mouths. Shamil also got the funny side effect of instantly growing ankle-length hair.
As the numbers thinned, the fighters of the party moved to the front lines. Biznard wielded a one-handed hammer for a change, still managing to cave in heads and chests. Cahir was an immovable object behind his enchanted shield, although he did not do much in terms of damage. Missing his greatsword, he had a longsword lent to him, which he wielded with great enthusiasm, but little skill.
Shamil vaulted over the line of enemies and climbed to the balcony, targeting the ranged combatants. Two crossbowmen and a priest fled, unwilling to face the assassin while standing in a wall of flames.
Athosian kept up a steady stream of arrows, targeting the casters first. She was targeted in kind.
Felgrin got away easily, being invisible the whole time.
After the battle, the adventurers looked around, finding only two of their allies still standing: a warrior-assassin and the wizard. They downed potion after potion, braving the side effects[1].
Finally recovering, they moved on. They only knew some parts of the house - they were invited here for tea not long ago - and so they stumbled into the unknown. Well, first the kitchen, where they looted some sausages. But then the unknown.
They had the wherewithal to toss a corpse through the door first, and they did see how someone fired a crossbow into it. But they did not take the hint, and sent the thief through to "disable the trap". Even though I made it abundantly clear that there were people there. Oh well. She took a heavy crossbow bolt and laid down to rest.
At least the crossbows were difficult to reload, and the priest was out of mana. So the adventurers charged in and whacked their enemies to death.
[1] I had waited ages for them to actually try my *special* potions. It was worth it.
