Deployment: Frontline Assault

  • Daemon Prince of Chaos, Wings, Hellforged Sword, the Impossible Robe, Daemonspark
  • Changecaster, Staff of Change, Gaze of Fate
  • 2x 10 Brimstone Horrors
  • 28 Pink Horrors

Adeptus Custodes: Patrol Detachment

  • Shield-Captain on Dawneagle Jetbike: Hurricane Bolter, Superior Creation, Warlord, Auric Aquilis
  • Custodian Guard Squad: 1 Sentinel Blade, Storm Shield, 2 Guardian Spear
  • Custodian Wardens: 3x Castellan Axe

Turn 1

The Custodians cautiously advanced on the Daemons, firing off shots into the cackling Brimstone Horrors. The Daemons responded with a focused psychic barrage, intent on taking down the Shield-Captain.

Turn 2

The wounded Shield-Captain gunned his jetbike, aiming to strike at the heart of the enemy. The Brimstones fell under a salvo of bolt rounds, but the Daemon Prince withstood the charging lance, his Impossible Robe glittering in a myriad of colors. The Shield-Captain fell under a series of relentless sword strikes.

The air then rippled and cracked as Pink Horrors tore into reality and bathed  the Wardens in flickering flames, taking one down.

Yes, your sight deceives you. That blue is actually a really deep shade of pink.

Turn 3

The Custodians broke through the Daemons' left flank, annihilating the small group of Brimstones.

The Wardens took refuge in the ruined circle, but the Daemons were nowhere near finished with them.
Pink Horrors ran all around them, ineffectually firing off their flaming shots.

Turn 4

The Wardens lifted their axes high and charged the Pink Horrors. As I once again readied 33 dice, the Custodes player said: I'll just roll 5 saves and let's be done with it. I agreed.

The daemon's psychic energies filled the air, and the Custodian Guard were annihilated. This left the Daemons at least as baffled as the Custodes, as the Horrors melted an entire Custodian.

Turn 5

The last Warden decided to go out in a blaze of glory, but his attacks faltered on the Impossible Robe. He went down to the daemonic sword.

Aftermath

Wow. Just... wow. I never had Horrors perform this well. They got Smite off twice, and their shooting attacks killed 2 or 3 Wardens.

I was really afraid of the jetbike, but a supercharged psychic phase followed by a rerolled failed 3+ invulnerable save got rid of that threat.

Overall, the game showed how a low points cost match can swing in either direction on the roll of a few dice.
