Painting a thief (slapchop method)

Try out the Slapchop Method on a 28mm miniature.

Slapchop method

Painting

I can already tell that dark colors work well - Basilicanum Grey results in a very nice black with smooth highlights. Diluted Cygor Brown on the boots and Snakebite Leather also look nice. However, lighter colors such as Darkoath Flesh for the skin and Skeleton Horde for the shirt look bad. Perhaps a lighter grey would do better.

I opted for a traditional Wraithbone basecoat on the lighter areas - light skin and white cloth. I did the facial hair Gore Grunta Fur for a light orange effect.

Finish off the face by painting eyes.

And finally, metallics. Silver on everything, then Nazdreg Yellow on the gold bits.

Conclusion

Again, a lighter basecoat would work better, I think - although the dark colors look very nice. With such a small miniature, it would be very hard to drybrush some parts such as the face to be lighter, while leaving adjoining areas darker. So the Slapchop works, but is not a silver bullet, much like everything else. Another tool for the toolbox!

Basing

Woodland base.

Finished!
