Literally 10 years late, but we're getting there. Spoiler: this was so much better than Unity. TL;DR loved it.
Long version: lots of new mechanics which I enjoyed, and lots of things slashed that I previously did not enjoy[1]. First and foremost, you can play as both of these characters. In the beginning, Evie is decidedly more stealthy compared to Jacob's fists-first approach. So obviously I only played as her whenever possible. We also did long treasure runs with my daughter throughout London, and she liked playing as a girl as well.
Speeding around town in a coach is now a core mechanic, and probably the fastest way of getting around once you get the hang of it and you don't run into everything all the time.
Climbing tall buildings is no longer a chore thanks to the rope launcher. Feel like a true superhero rappelling up the side of Big Ben!
The playable London area is, I think, even larger than the previous Paris area, so there is plenty of opportunity to exercise travel. Sights are beautiful and many features of the city already hint at modern day amenities.
Hunting for treasure around London is already enjoyable. Feel free to parkour around the city; with the exception of red zones, after a couple of upgrades[2], you can travel around unmolested.
Stealth and combat were overhauled, and I enjoyed both. Many things can be done by stealth alone, and combat is no longer laborious. Just shoot them with your revolver!
There are also new story mechanics, like the investigation scenes. All investigations have roots in real events, such as this one reminiscent of Sweeney Todd.
On to the story elements. Replacing the previous series of brooding tough guy protagonists, Jacob spits one-liner like a superhero in a Marvel movie. Evie is the more serious character, but it does not feel forced. There are feel good moments...
...and tragedy and lost love as well. Without spoiling the story, I enjoyed the back and forth between the twins.
In true Assassin's Creed tradition, you may meet some of the famous people of the era, including Charles Dickens...
...Charles Darwin, Karl Marx, Alexander Graham Bell, Queen Victoria, Florence Nightingale, Duleep Singh and Frederick Abberline.
If you ever enjoyed reading novels set in the Victorian era, all these top hats will make you giddy.
[1] Looking at forced multiplayer, cage fights, very long travel times.
[2] Red enemies will no longer attack, although black clothed templars will still shoot on sight.
