Round 3
Attackers closing in, action coming up soon.
Lychguard bracing for the charge.
Chaos Legionaries holding back the tide, by charging a unit of Intercessors and then presenting a wall of flesh and armor.
Azrael and Tyranids on the other side of that wall.
Preliminary skirmishes done. The main force of the Deathwing backed up by the Lion is ready to kill some Lychguard.
Azrael, backed up by Tyranid shooting, quickly slaughtered the Legionaries.
However, the main force of Chosen and Raptors are still hiding.
Brace!
The charge was devastating. Keeping the Rubrics hidden would have ensure their longer survival, but rolling dice is fun. 47 attacks! 1 wound on the Lion.
Overwatch! No wounds this time.
I computed around enough wounds remaining to survive the remaining rounds, so the Chosen rushed up to single handedly hold up the Tyranids.
The game continued into round 6, where the Rubrics did not survive the Lion's charge.
The game ended after round 6, with the defenders victorious. The situation seemed hopeless for the attacks, but they were learning on the fly. More aggressive deployment and movement would have served them well. Hormagaunts returning on 2+ and then coming in from the sides were a very useful distraction. The Lion and the Deathwing footslogged the breadth of the table - perhaps deep striking would have meant faster melee.
And there were cool moments as well. Best Cultists resisting against the Outriders. Silent King dying, then exploding and killing the remaining Lychguard. Chosen charging out, doing massive damage. The Lion resisting all the flame attacks, then cutting down the Rubrics in a single round.
And of course, the attackers lamenting not bringing more battleline.
