Raising and decorating an ASOIAF movement tray for Free Folk

Unsure if I'll do any more but here goes the process (with pictures stolen from the various ones I did).

Raised area

See which area needs to be raised. Drill out the corners of the shape. Drill multiple holes and unite then with clippers.

These openings should be big enough to introduce a hobby saw. Cut out the shape.

At this point glue on the magnets to the back of the tray and the cut out piece.

Start filling in the hole. I used ice cream sticks. UHU or epoxy glue works.

Add additional material (in this case more ice cream sticks in a lattice pattern) to reach the desired height. I wouldn't go higher than this, given that the tray is pretty crowded and it would be a steep hill.

Chop off the rim of the cut out piece to the minimum before gluing it on.

Fill out the gaps using milliput. Depending on decorative elements, this can be done before or after gluing them on.

Ice base

Spray white, then paint.

Painting the details

  • Dark wood (although I just do one layer of Wyldwood)
  • Bone (Contrast)
  • small arctic animals
    • basecoat Grey Seer
    • Soublight Grey
    • highlight white
    • paint spots and eyes Black Templar
