6th edition throwback! 6 player placed objectives, Slay the Warlord(s), First Strike, Linebreaker, random 10th edition terrain layout and deployment, random teams, let's go!
Note that I did have some misgivings about the open terrain and being faced with 3 Doomsday Arks, but hey, let's give it a try.
Round 1
Dark Angels/Necrons had first turn and moved on to the center objectives. Only a Hive Guard died on our side, somehow. With all our shooting focused on the right side, I said let's go for the Wraith unit. With that down, the enemy's opposing flank is crippled and a huge melee threat is gone.
Spoiler: we killed 2 models.
Round 2
Dark Angels bolter down some gants, and prepare for next turn. Fortunately the Lion failed his 9" charge. The Rubrics took some heat but survived, and so did the Tyranid monsters.
I couldn't decide between storming the left or right flank. I went straight for the Wraiths. They died to the Chosen - just.
On the other flank, the Raptors landed on a free objective to shoot plasma at the Lion, with the Legionaries taking care of deep striking Inceptors. The Lion did a heroic intervention, and killed them all.
Round 3
At the beginning of round 3, we were about equal in points.
Then, all 3 Doomsday Arks focused on the Chosen, killing them and my Warlord.
Deathwing closed in on the Raptors and the Lion charged the Neurothropes. We gave up. At the end of the round, we would have been left with 2 Rhinos, 5 Rubrics and a Tyrannofex that did 0 damage during two shooting phases.
