Converting and painting Followers of Bone

I got a box of these for relatively cheap. Still riding the high of the successful Thenn conversions, I decided on giving these guys the same treatment. Unlike the spearwives, make the miniatures unique through weapon swaps and other conversions.

Working on the tray

Follow these steps but there's some unique elements as well.

Cover up the scaffolding using milliput. I also decided on a giant skull banner totem thing. Use a 2mm rod to hold up this huge skull from the GW skull kit.

I masked the rod with green stuff fur, and some wire as leather straps.

There's also a smaller giant skull in the back.

And all joins properly masked with more green stuff fur.

Glue it in, along with more decorative elements. Give the rod some texture with a layer of Liquid Green Stuff.

Spray prime white, then paint:

After varnish, when putting on the snow, make sure to put some on the trees, skulls etc.

    Conversions

This guy is already unique. Just give him even more skulls.

Prepare the bits! Swords and shields from some GW undead kit, shields from the Ogors, and various other things.

This is how I did shields. Cut off parts of the weapon and dryfit the shield until it mostly fit. Plop a bit of green stuff in between the two, a bit of superglue over that, then push in the shield and leave it over night.

For the weapon, I just cut off the ends and replaced with other bits. Everything is pinned with 1mm brass rods.

I really liked the pose of these guys so instead of a different weapon, I guy got a green stuff hood. And for the one on the left, I decided on a skull flail. Drill out the knife hand, and bend a paper clip into shape.

What's worse than a guy swinging a skull at you? A guy swinging somebody's face! I feel this is already Warhammer level of over the top, which makes it all the more enjoyable.

    Painting the miniatures

All the interesting parts of this project are already done, so go for slapchop. Then Ice base and medium skintone.

There's very little skin showing on these guys and almost no faces, so that's easy. Any metal weapon bits are Corroded bronze.

    Finished!
