Game 1 versus dragons. Appropriately, A Dance with Dragons. I picked my giants list, because dragons autokill Varamyr's zoo. Sigh.
After an uneventful turn 1, during which I lost Raiders to panic and the Dothraki Outriders and the Giant Spear Thrower pretended to shoot each other...
...things got heated in the middle. I had one Savage Giant push up because YOLO, with Drogon immediately charging in and leaving him at 1 wound. I had my second Savage charge in, doing damage; immediately countercharged by Rhaegal. Spear Giant taking down Dothraki. Nobody on the objectives.
Then, a combo that rarely comes up this beautifully. Drogon attacks and kill Savage Giant. Last of Their Kind card! Mag charges in, kills Drogon. Overrun card! Charge into Rhaegal, leaving him at 1 wound.
At this point we both randomly decided to conserve resources. Rhaegal pulled back.
Mag scored the center objective once, but it was immediately taken away by the Unsullied. Rhaegal killed the Savage Giant. Spear Thrower killed the Outriders before they could shoot down the Raiders, who had fearfully taken the side objective.
We ended the game turn 4 with 3-3 and same amount killed. I won with points on the table 17-15.
Overall a fast paced and enjoyable game, even against a beginner opponent. I was really afraid of the dragons but the giants held. I could have gambled by going all in after my victories in the middle, but I did the Free Folk grind and stall and it worked out in the end.
