I already got two of these models; now I'm just making sure I never need any trolls again. The 4 armed version is a conversion by someone else; too bad it wasn't ready for its appearance in Dungeon of the Mad Mage.
Contrast-based turquoise color scheme
Prime Grey Seer.
Seraphim Sepia in the front, Gryph Charger Grey in the back.
Poxwalker on the back, feather out into the sepia parts.
Stipple Terradon Turqoise on the back and shoulders, feather out.
Black Legion claws, Black Templar hair. Drybrush Dead Flesh + Bonewhite gently across the not-sepia parts. Pick out the face by hand.
Finish off the other details: Light leather, Brown fur, metallic. Paint the eyes white, then Blood Angels Red. Paint the teeth Bonewhite, then Agrax Earthshade.
Non-contrast based blue color scheme
Basecoat 2:2:1 Turquoise + Cold Grey + Black as an approximation of Thunderhawk Blue.
Stipple 1:1 Black + Turquoise on the back, approximating Dark Reaper.
Heavy drybrush 2:1 Bonewhite + Stonewall Grey on the belly.
Dilute 1:1 Coelia Greenshade and paint all over.
Drybrush the back Wolf Grey.
Drybrush the front 2:1 Bonewhite + Stonewall Grey, then 2:1 Off White + Stonewall Grey.
Then paint the rest of the details. Same as the first batch of trolls, but using non-contrast based color schemes: Brown fur, Light leather.
Retouching a painted troll
The skin is just fine with those slight gradients but I disliked the red fur so I took it more into an orange-brown shade.
Then turned up the highlights with Bonewhite on the pustules, and Light leather on the bracers.
Base
- Woodland base for everyone, but no flowers.
