Game 2 against my eternal opponent and his High Sparrow led infantry blocks. In A Game of Thrones, the choice of Varamyr's zoo in support of Mag's giants was obvious.
Things got heated immediately. I opened with my Spear Thrower with the attack tactics board position, at which Varys scored 3 hits on the Raiders. Tywin pounced with everything on them following a Bribery, Hear Me Roar leaving the unit at 1 model remaining.
I brought two models back with Craster, but they were 1 panic test away from death. With the Lannisters starting round 2, this happened immediately, rendering the Boar useless. Counting on it, I brought in Jon Snow and his guys to take the far left objective.
Note that the Crossbowmen advanced on an objective; Warrior's Sons and Mountain's Men going towards the middle; but Jaime and his Honour Guard sit in the corner, ready to intercept the Shadowcat. They stood there for the first two rounds.
I just danced around with the Wolfpack, luring the Mountain's Men away. Giant Spear Thrower moved back to take Borroq's place on the objective and resolved to throw attacks on 6+ for the rest of the game. Varamyr showed his quality by taking the objective in front of the Crossbowmen. Round 2 ended 3-2.
Round 3 ended 6-3 with Mag charging on the center objective. Varamyr died to the Crossbows but at least maneuvered them off the objective. The Shadowcat jumped in front of the Crossbows from reserve to block their shooting of Mag.
Then the Mountain's Men charged and killed Mag, so round 4 ended with a ridiculous 8-7. It took a ridiculous amount of maneuvering, but in the end the Wolfpack marched in front of the Mountain's Men, and blocked their charge of Jon Snow's Raider squad.
The game ended 10-9.
This was super intense, we both gave it all. And beating this experienced opponent was the highlight of the day.
