Game 3 of Banners and Butchery against double Tully cavalry. My opponent was obviously going to pick this one with the close deployment and needing attack actions on objectives. I picked the giants, knowing that double cavalry would just mow down my zoo. I haven't played against the Starks in a while, so a bit of trepidation. Beware the Assault Orders.
Obviously the Starks deployed on the line, with one unit of cavalry in Outflank. I placed the Giant Spear Thrower on my objective, but already I felt it went too far ahead. I protected the other objective with spikes. One giant on the far left to score some cheeky points.
I wanted first turn, so the outflanking cavalry came in behind me. Sigh.
I could have gone forward with the original plan, but two units of Tully cavaliers running rampant in my zone sounded like a bad idea. I Trample-d backwards, then the cavaliers charged the giant in the rear, then he hit back, and that was that on the left flank.
With the second unit of Cavaliers moving in support, I advanced the Savage Giant to eat the overwatch, then moved Mag in support. Spear Thrower also put in some work.
Changing their mind on turn 2, the Cavaliers turned around to clap Mag. With 1 wound remaining, and threats in front and from the archers, Mag retreated out of range. However, the Cavaliers played Assault Orders to kill him, thus effectively denying me the possibility of scoring for the rest of the game.
I resolved to deny their abilities, and at least on the left flank, the Giant did remove the second cavalry.
With the Berserkers moving towards my far objective, I committed everything to blocking.
And then it was a matter of resisting, maneuvering and denying movement. Mance put in work by influencing the Berserkers. Thus, they were unable to move and attack the objective in the same round. Nothing else changed.
Game ended 0-0 and I won with more units on the table. That was... unexpected.
