Mission: Contact Lost / Retrieval
Deployment: Spearhead Assault
Deployment
The Fists formed a firing line, with the Scouts in the ruins ahead and the Whirlwind in the backfield, not visible. I drew an unintentional Eye of Horus with my Plaguebearers, with the Horrors denying Terminator deployment in the back and the Nurglings camping an objective in the top ruins.
I managed to seize the initiave.
Chaos, turn 1
With the Daemon Princes already up the field, I teleported in my Terminators nice and close to the enemy lines. Cue Auspex Scan stratagem with the Helblasters, and the Terminators died to a man. When setting up, I was ready for a nice and easy game - judging by the training game we had, I shouldn't face any issues. However, this stratagem threw a monkey wrench into my plans! Time for an uphill struggle.
Also, lacking the screen of Terminators, I landed the Chaos Lord and Sorcerer in between the Princes.
Smite spam into the Redemptor, taking it down to 4 wounds.
No objectives scored. Nothing killed. Lost the hammer of my army. Things were looking grim.
Imperial Fists, turn 1
The Knight and the Dreadnought marched forward, and poured shots into the Plaguebearers. So did the Terminators who teleported in support of the Chapter Master - he needed to advance for the mission critical objective.
The Knight then charged in. Another lesson for me - due to careless positioning, he was able to reach Be'lakor and stomp him. Fortunately, saves were made, and he was left with 3 wounds remaining.
A successful turn for the Fists, with casualties inflicted on the Plaguebearers, CPs shaved for the morale auto-pass, and hurting Be'lakor - not to mention a good lead in points due to First Blood and 4 points for the objective.
Chaos, turn 2
Time to summon reinforcements.
The Chaos Lord used Dark Pact to bring in 30 Bloodletters - who then promptly charged the Knight.
The Sorcerer summoned 10 Brimstone Horrors (disguised as Plaguebearers on a movement tray) just to hold the objective after the real Plaguebearers die.
The Daemon Princes summoned a Herald of Nurgle for Smiting purposes.
Be'lakor retreated for combat, and the axe-wielding Prince took his place against the Knight.
Bloodletters rock! Plenty of attacks and all. Helped out by the Prince, they left the Knight standing at 2 wounds remaining.
Imperial Fists, turn 2
The Knight tried to fall back, but being so hurt, his movement was so reduced that he could not move enough. This left my combat units and all characters un-targetable. Fire poured into the Brimstones, reducing them in number but not quite killing them.
The Scouts fired at Be'lakor, leaving him at 1 wound.
The Dreadnought, the Terminators, the Librarian and the Chapter Master joined combat.
The Bloodletters were greatly reduced in number, but at least the Daemon Prince destroyed the Knight.
The Bloodletters then shined again, getting their combat buffs also when being charged. I directed the maximum number of attacks into the Terminators, killing the entire unit.
Consolidating every forward!
Chaos, turn 3
Daemon Prince finally fly out of the bubble wrap.
Smites execute the Chapter Master. The axe-wielding Prince, having successfully survived the Knight, is healed by the other Prince and then Warptime'd forward.
I had Overwhelming Firepower, so I didn't smite the Dreadnought. I then fired all the plasmas and warp bolters at it, but it survived with 1 wound remaining.
Charges! Be'lakor and dual-talon Prince charge the Scouts. Axe-Prince charges the Helblasters and lands behind them.
After combats: Scouts dead, cannon engaged, Helblasters neutered, Librarian dead.
Imperial Fists, turn 3
The Apothecary charged in, and last-ditched efforts were made all around.
To no avail - only the Whirlwind survived.
Chaos, turn 4
Unleashed all the Smites as well as the feeble shooting that I had, and managed to destroy the Whirlwind in close combat by the end of turn 4. Victory by tabling, 20 - 0.
