M.A.G.U.S. - Dragon turtle and island adventures

I started off the session by visiting the Dolsaki's again, due to having remembered a spell of mine able to locate a  target person across great distances. All I needed was some personal item. I was rather rudely told off by the butler, and I let my frustration flow through a hissy fit. Yes, I was quite deep in character. Shamil saved the situation by leading the entire party to an audience with the head of the noble house. Or, at least one of the offspring... who did supply us with the required item (golden buttons!), and which did confirm the direction - if not the distance - we were to head out.

We set sail towards the islands, and decided to unlock Athosian's artefact along the way. As she floated about on her iceberg (or, rather, her large ice cube), she was quickly encased in whirling fog, isolating her from the ship, and us[1].

Not long after, a sailor cried: "Reef!", and by the time we came to, a monster was upon us.

The Dragon Turtle made short work of the captain and a couple of sailors. Biznard charged, but got swiped into the sea. Cahir stabbed its leg, to no great effect. I tried some magic, but the monster's mind was too alien to affect. It did notice me, and I barely took cover behind the mast as it splintered.

Shamil had the best idea: he used his artefact to fly over the turtle and land amid the ballistas, firing both in quick succession. This got the critter's attention.

As it charged Shamil, I analysed its mental defenses and tried to fire off another spell, with a lesser effect, but more chances to go through. Nothing.

The turtle charged Shamil, who flew upwards, letting the beast follow through and fall off the ship due to its momentum.

We reorganized quickly, having the sailors load the ballistas, and readying spells and other weaponry. Also climbing back to the ship, in the case of Biznard. Not too soon either, as the turtle climbed back up after a couple of rounds. The guys battered it to no great effect. As I was pondering my uselessness, I remembered my alchemy and started lobbing flashbangs at its head. This convinced the beast to go back into the water. We breathed relieved, but then it started banging its head against the hull.

With both Shamil and Biznard giving up their ranged capabilities in exchange for unlocking artefact powers (and our ranged specialist sleeping on an ice cube), it was up to me to fire the ballista. I rushed across the ship, flinging a flashbang as I went. This incapacitated the monster, and I fired off the ballista - missing. As the turtle was coming trough, Biznard had the idea to unmount the ballista on the other side. All he needed was some emergency mindcontrol, so I could direct the shot myself, and put a bolt through the beast's head. Phew! That was close.

Athosian then showed off her new elemental slave, and used it to push the ship onwards, as we were now lacking any means of propulsion. The turtle had broken all the masts, as well as making a hole in the ship's hull.

With some delay, we made it to the island; unfortunately, with no way to direct the ship, we had to make for the closest beach.

As we were discussing how to go on, a huge mutant crab showed up, and ripped apart one of our sailors! One of our every shrinking crew of currently 8. We charged it with a fury. Shamil's shortswords bounced off, but Biznard bashed in its back with a single swing of his hammer.

After this unfortunate happening, we scouted around the shore. We found an abandoned gazebo not far, and searched it thoroughly, finding a message in a bottle detailing the island's more useful flora.

With the coast clear[2], we sat down to plan. We were behind schedule due to the turtle, and the ship needed repairing. Our destination was the city across the island, at a good two week's trek on foot.

We settled on using a combination of magic items and spells to do short jumps across the island. Our first destination was a small village about two days away. Obviously, we ran into a battle between three villagers (two alive) and a large two-headed snake. Biznard turned one head into a pulp, and got bitten by the other one in return, which Shamil then cut off. Quick intervention by Cahir's divine healing, as well as my own potion of health, resulted in the barbarian merely getting paralysed... I wonder what the primary effect of the poison was?

We joined the villagers going back towards the village.

[1] We were used to this by now, and Athosian's player whipped out her phone.
[2] This is in line with the amount of dad jokes and wordplays we usually do while gaming.
