Uprising on Mane Primus - Mission #5 Game - Assassinate the enemy commander

Mission

Start with 5 CP. All rolls done by the player and can be CP rerolled.
Variable game length.
Have 6 ruins/buildings on the battlefield.
When reaching a ruin, the scouts can either breach or besiege.
Besiege: stay in base contact with ruin. At the beginning of next enemy turn, on 4+, the enemy rushes out. Each squad suffers D3 MW. Otherwise, the enemy rushes out the following turn. Each squad suffers D6 MW.
Breach: the scouts who end the movement phase in base contact with the ruin enter the ruin. If they eliminate all resistance by the end of the following enemy turn, they can exit the building in their movement phase as if debarking from a transport.
The first two ruins searched do not have the commander.
For the third ruin and onwards, roll a D6, adding the number of ruins searched thus far. On 8+, you have found the commander and his elite bodyguard. The commander is automatically found in the 6th ruin, otherwise.
Minor victory: kill the enemy commander.
Major victory: breach all 6 ruins.

Deployment

Alpha Squad infiltrated the enemy compound without alerting any sentries. They split into two combat squads, lead by Argus and Boreas.

Alpha Squad, turn 1

Boreas and his men breached the first ruin, and found two small groups of enemy soldiers.

After a suppressing barrage of frag grenades which left the rebels stunned, the Scouts waded in with their combat knives, laying low the enemy.

Argus and his men also breached a ruin, and applied the same tactics to clear it out.

Alpha Squad, turn 2

Although scorched by an enemy flamer, Argus lead his men on fearlessly.

In the third building, the Scouts fought down a dread feeling, as they found the enemy soldiers sitting around circles drawn in chalk, with strange symbols in the middle, and candles burning everywhere. Nevertheless, they launched their assault with full fury.

The rebel soldiers fought fanatically, but they could not stand up Alpha Squad.

For Argus, the situation turned even more sinister. At least one soldier bore hideous mutations, and his flailing flesh tendril inflicted grievous wounds on the Scouts before they could bring him down.

Onwards!

Time was running out, and the Scouts besieged the last two buildings simultaneously. The Emperor was with them, for they did not have to fight all the rebel soldiers at once. However, from the one building burst forth not only fanatical squads of rebels, but also the commander and his elite bodyguard!

And at this point, the Scouts' suspicions were confirmed. The rebel commander was a mutant, sporting red skin and horns. His eyes crackled with warp lightning as he welcomed the space marines and ordered his men to engage them. The elite guard themselves wore armor daubed in heretical sigils. Some symbols hurt the eye as the Scouts turned their look upon them.

Although bloodied on the way out, the traitors engaged the Scouts in force.

The battle grew ever desperate, as the clock was ticking and rebel reinforcements could arrive at any moment. Boreas rushed his men towards the fighting, only to have the other building's occupants burst out and attack them from behind.

The Scouts fought with rising fury, making their way through the heretical horde towards the commander. The rogue psyker unleashed his warp-born powers, but he met the grim resolve of Grigor and Boreas, as his sorcerous lightning bolts were extinguished one by one. His militia sacrificed themselves to buy him time, but they could not intercept a well aimed sniper round from Borgos.

At the last moment, their ammo expended, the Scouts found themselves with no more enemies between them and their quarry. Raising his chainsword, Argus charged, and his squad with him! They battered the psyker with everything they had, but his crackling aura turned their weapons aside. The heretic grinned... and then Karn brought down the butt of his sniper rifle, smashing the mutant face to a pulp!

Aftermath

I had the Scouts finish the last fight with the remaining soldiers just to see if they suffer any permanent injuries, but their goal was accomplished, securing their minor victory - in their final fight phase of the 7th battle round!

All in all, a very successful, tense and close game and a hard fought victory.

The only one to fall and be dragged away unconscious was Grigor, and he suffered a permanent injury: -1 to his wounds characteristic. Slowly but surely, the campaign is chipping away at the Scouts, although they are also mightier with each mission accomplished!
