Painting stalagmite monsters

Introduction

Dungeon dwelling creepy crawlies for the comission.

Initial state

Shading

I decided to experiment. Left to right, we have: Skeleton Horde, Seraphim Sepia, Snakebite Leather, Agrax Earthshade.
Skeleton Horde vs Seraphim Sepia works about as expected, about the same shade but the contrast paint provides a darker, browner tone.
I was completely bummed out by how the other two behaved on this reddish brown. The spots they left were so dark as almost black. At least the Agrax desaturated the area.

The two on the left progressed with Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil. I looked for darker shades for the right ones (probably should have done successive highlights instead) and applied diluted Wyldwood and Nuln Oil.

Highlights and details

Drybrush Bonewhite and Tan.

Flesh Tearers Red inside the mouths.

The feet were initially painted grey and they caught all the shades thrown on, so I did highlights with Cold Grey and Stonewall Grey to bring them back up.

Eyes (but with funny looking pupils).

Teeth and tongue, as well as a coat of Lamenter's Yellow on the eyes to make them look bestial.

Finished!
