Painting a monstrous lion/manticore

Introduction

I magnetized this guy before - now he's back for a couple coats of paint.

Original state

Painting

Heavy Brown fur and mane. Cold Grey tail spikes. Nuln Oil over that.

Two coats of Agrax Earthshade.

Basecoat the fangs and claws in Bonewhite between the two.

Work on the fur first.. Drybrush Heavy Brown, then Khaki...

... then Bonewhite. Edge highlight the tail with Cold Grey...

...then Bonewhite.

Give the fangs and bones the regular old treatment.

Yeah, I pretty much finished everything in Bonewhite so far.

Time to glaze the skin Heavy Goldbrown, then highlight Sun Yellow. Inspiration from the lion body of this griffon

Finish the face with the tongue and eyes. Glaze the eyes Lamenter's Yellow (which is how lions' eyes look), and coat the nose in Black Templar.

I disliked the final skin - too much contrast - so I did a diluted glaze of Seraphim Sepia 2:3 with Lahmian Medium.

Finished!
