Introduction
Paper flags
First, create your designs using the best image editing tool there is: MS Paint. Also some help from IrfanView for resizing images found on Google.
I picked Livia Drusilla Claudia (from the show Domina), Valentina Tereshkova (first woman in space), Ada Lovelace (first programmer), and Ilsa, the tigress of Siberia (this one is only for men of culture).
Resize the images and cut them to size, then leave some border and print them out. Cut them out using plain old scissors. Then glue the two halves using white glue and leave them under a weight overnight.
Flag poles
I looked for pieces of sprue that have no connectors or other bits on them. Totally smooth. Cut them to size, then glue their ends (just on one end!) using plastic glue.
Drill the glued areas, then glue in the 3mm magnets.
I of course drill through them by mistake, so I tried to plug the holes with green stuff, but it just wasn't coming out smooth enough.
So I glued on some half-gems instead, to be painted as metallic bolts.
Paint dark metal.
Glue in the flag. Do this very carefully and double check the facing; I did manage to ruin one of the four.
Steps:
- slightly pull apart the two pieces down the length of the flag pole. They might be stuck due to the spray(s); work them apart gently.
- dry fit the flag. I used my daughter's fancy wavy scissors to cut off the borders, and a regular scissor to cut the part that goes into the pole to size.
- use a pin to spread very thin super glue across the white area of the flag that goes in. Quickly pull apart the pieces again and insert the flag. There is a very short timeframe to fit the flag. Then squeeze the pieces together for a minute. After that, work them apart again (if they come apart), insert some more super glue at the end, and squeeze them again.
Finished!
