Let's give the giants time to shine during a game of Dark Wings, Dark Words.
Note that I forgot to take pictures during round 1, as we were just posturing anyway, until the crossbowmen ran forwards and shot down my chariot. RIP. 5 points deficit from turn 1. Cool.
During round 2, the battle lines settled into this:
So 1 giant per infantry block, with the Raiders and Shaggydog each holding the side objectives.
This went on for several turns, with the Tully stuff healing back literally everything, and the giants doing the same with a combination of cards and NCU actions.
I removed the back rank of the cavalry a couple of times, but Eddard intervened. This is how the board still looked during round 3.
Scoring was very close, by the start of round 4.
After another full heal on the cavalry, they charged into my savage giant. This was his time to hit as hard as can and take 2VPs for killing the enemy commander.
Sad trombone noises.
I had some more tricks, by shooting a spear into the side of the cavalry, but only 1 out of 3 dice landed. At this point I was unable to kill anything or do anything, really. Game ended 12-9, which is a ridiculously high score in my previous experience.
The game mode is very cool, and I used several of my NCU/commander activations to change the missions. Especially with Mag at 1 wound and any misses causing wounds back due to Osha - how about don't swing at all?
The list I made with Mag also seemed viable, although the Chariot was misused and died. I think I'd rather squeeze in another giant somehow, and leave only a single other scoring unit, perhaps by cutting down an NCU.
