For (probably?) the last game of 10th edition, we played a 2v2 scenario: The Relic. One objective in the middle, you can pick it up with infantry. The dice decided that Lion El'Jonson should ally with his Fallen sons against the Thousand Sons, who are probably controlling the Tyranids through warp-born sorcery. Deployment: Hammer and Anvil.
We got first turn and moved up in the cover of ruins. Our opponents also surged forwards, putting 'gaunts on the Relic.
What followed was a series of kill-whoever-is-on-the-objective type moves. I started with disembarking my Rubrics to flame down the 'gaunts.
Tzaangors rushed out to take the Relic, but they got the 10d6 hits on overwatch treatment. Then everything else moved out and shot down most of the Rubrics.
On the left flank, the Dark Angels fought the Thousand Sons. Everything except the Lion went in against a large squad of Scarab Occult Terminators. Sternguard died quickly, but the Inner Circle guys got to melee range. I also sent my Raptors here in support, and killed enemy Rubrics in volleys of plasma fire.
Speaking of the Lion, he came to the middle to deal with the Tyranids. I put a lot of bodies on the Relic instead.
Continuing the brawl in the middle, the combined fire of bolter Rubrics, Tyranid Warriors, an Exocrine, Gargoyles and 'gaunts took down the Cultists and Legionaries.
The Raptors swooped in to gun down the Rubrics, then assaulted the Gargoyles. The combined firepower of two Rhinos, disembarking Rubrics (I had 3 left) and the Lion cleared out the rest of the chaff.
At this point the remnants of the armies on the left carried on in bitter melee, but they realized this counted for nothing. All these units were out of the fight that mattered: the battle for the Relic.
The Swarmlord, kept in reserve till now, charged in, only to be skewered by the Lion. This was the final nail in the coffin.
For on turn 5, my Chosen rushed out of their Rhino to take the Relic. With nothing to effectively challenge them, the game ended with our victory!
I sacrificed literally everything to tie down the enemy in the middle, keeping the Chosen in reserve for the crucial moment. The Swarmlord tried to do the same, but he had to deal with the Lion. Fights First is, however, a very strong rule.
There was also the point of the Thousand Sons sending their Terminators to the flank. I believe they should have committed to the middle instead.
All in all a fun game; lots of death and carnage!
