Painting darkness monsters/black puddings

I needed some Black Puddings for Dungeon of the Mad Mage, and these darkness monsters from The Edge: Dawnfall came to the rescue. Especially given the "special" nature of these blobs.

Preparation

Glue the minis to 32mm bases (should have gone for 40mm but back then I did have a purpose for them). Prime black. Fill out the base using terrain paste.

Painting

Paint the base simplified wasteland TODO LINX, suited for this creature's underground abode.

I was inspired by this old painting tip on Painting dark fire. Instead of blending, I opted for drybrushing, given the large and intricate surfaces. Drybrush overall Heavy Charcoal, then mix with Turqoise for a second layer.

Drybrush the raised areas Hexed Lichen.

With all the relevant areas highlighted by the drybrushing, I then did small highlights using Hexen Lichen + Warlord Purple, then add White into the mix for a second layer.

Spot highlights White, to mimic a shiny, oily surface.

After spray varnish, coat the mini in two coats of gloss varnish.

Finished!
