Time to play with the newly released tournament deck. Dawn of War, Purge the Foe, and updated secondaries.
The board was strangely sparse, and I had no long range firepower. Thus, I hid my stuff out of line of sight, afraid of the Predators. I also kept half my army in reserves, including 2 Tauroxes.
Battle round 1-3
I unfortunately went second. I really wanted to bring my reinforcements in ASAP. So first turn I just ran a group of Cadians unto the middle objective for 6 secondary points, and then they died. With no opposition, the Thousand Sons took up board control. On their second turn, some Tauroxes were already in line of sight, despite my best efforts. Luckily everything survived, including these two at 1 wound each.
A single Spawn holding one Taurox in combat on the left flank.
So on my second turn, I went all out.
The deep striking Scions killed the Terminators, and charged the Sorcerer, but failed to scratch his armor. The Scions moving up barely scratched the Forgefiend, while the other squad disembarking in the back annihilated the Spawn.
Aquilons could not kill 10 Tzaangors.
So on the other flank, I employed Firing Hot to kill a squad of Enlightened and kill some Rubrics.
The assault on the Mutalith went badly, with the Kasrkin getting overwatched to oblivion, and then nothing really getting through.
So I did kill a lot, but I had lots of T3 bodies exposed. I got thrashed in turn 3, with multiple squads going down and all objectives taken over by the enemy.
Battle round 4
Somehow, I killed both Predators, the Mutalith and Forgefiend during a single turn.
Battle round 5
Standard endgame stuff, with Magnus mopping up two squads.
Flamer Rubrics killing my Inquisitor.
Conclusion
Thousand Sons victory 95-80.
After the slaughter that went down during turns 2-3, that was really closer than I expected. The Thousand Sons consistently held more objectives, but I sometimes killed more. I definitely had the killing power, but very little staying power. Hence I got thrashed on primary. Secondary points were pretty close, with the challenger missions helping some.
About the Bridgehead Strikeforce: the killing power is definitely there, as long as you carefully select targets sitting on objectives. Otherwise, strength 8 infantry weapons bounce off tanks like wet noodles. I don't see why the detachment needed a nerf, but a couple more games should refine my list. Aquilons are definitely not killy, maybe screening infantry and do action. Scions are the bread and butter here, and the attached psykers worked really well.
