Alright, so this came up again and boy did we come a long way since last year's edition.
Yes, I'm wearing a 'Valar Morghulis' t-shirt.
So here are the games and the link to the tournament itself:
- Game 1: Free Folk vs Baratheon
- Game 2: Free Folk vs Starks
- Game 3: Free Folk vs Targaryens
- Game 4: Free Folk vs Martells
- Game 5: Free Folk vs Lannisters
but I want to talk a bit more about organization and stuff. So obviously we had more participants this year; but also more variation, with people coming in locally, from across the country and from two foreign countries. With more participants came more games, as the event stretched across two days. Playing 3 games during Saturday was exhausting, and we happily went out for a beer afterwards.
The atmosphere was generally great, and I enjoyed all the interactions, stuff I could learn from pro players, and learning about new factions (with the exceptions of the Targaryens. I'm sorry but I now hate dragons!).
We also had an allegedly expert level quiz on lore, which I handily won with 17/25 correct answers. Conclusion: you don't have to be good, you have to be lucky (and guess well).
Listening through this 4 hour Free Folk review while painting was actually worth it, as I applied the "Mag smash" theorem and got 3rd place. I had no business ranking above some of the guys, but that is how the points worked out. Hey, I'm just happy that I beat the Lannisters and their High Sparrow. And now I have an Alicent Hightower to paint.
