I dreaded this game from the beginning. Martells are the most gimicky faction that I know of. Here's them against my refuse flank, with sacrificial trappers on the right flank.
I go first, technically, so the Sand Skirmishers arrive behind my Trappers. Then Walder Frey makes the Martells go first. Sand Skirmishers shoot twice due to cards and stuff, Trappers die. It's cool that the Bear stays until next round, though - I made it move closer to the objective. Come and take it!
Also, that Trapper unit was meant to distract and die there. So far, so good.
So let's focus on the real action. Boar goes in to tie down the cavalry. Takes wounds in return but doesn't die.
Abel did work on the archers, who rather passed than also take hidden traps. I had the Boar retreat with Lady Val to hold the objective as the last step of the round. It died to wall fire, but a point is a point. And another with Varamyr is already 2-0.
I learned movement shenanigans from the Stark player, so I snapped the Raiders onto the objective when attacking. Rising temperatures or not, I never intended to kill the cavalry. By which I mean, I couldn't have even if I wanted to.
Sand Skimishers fire more and the cavalry is caught by the Wolf Pack. Not much use against the Martells who are only loaded with offensive abilities, but always handy for tying down stuff.
Round 4 saw a lot more action. Mag charged into the archers to kill them. Cavalry charged the Raiders but failed to kill them. Dune Vipers went into the Thenns, then Mag did counter-assault. Sand Skirmishers into the Thenns - I survived by a hair's breadth. Then Mag attacked with -1 to hit. No hits. That was a big sad moment. Thenns also activated, but only killed Dune Vipers with Hold the Line due to all the negatives accumulating on them.
The abused Raiders finally died to wall fire, but I had enough points to win.
I still hate this faction for all its gimmicks. At least the base stat lines are almost as bad as mine. Unlike the Lannisters. Speaking of...
