Deployment: Dawn of War

With the amount of banter flowing back and forth, and being excited at finally playing a game, I completely forgot about taking pictures.

I put the Bloodletters and Bloodmaster in Denizens of the Warp, everything else went on the table. I had first turn, and advanced up on the field. I failed/got denied in the psychic phase, and scored The Dominion of Chaos for 2 points.

Harlequins, turn 1

Everything shifted to go against my right flank, leaving the Nurgle stuff alone. With everything suddenly so close to my Daemon Prince, I suddenly regretted only having 5 Flesh Hounds around him.

One melee Troupe approaches the brick of Plaguebearers and the hidden characters.

Everything else surrounds the Khorne troops. The Daemon Prince is called "Fire Magnet". Coincidence? I think not.

MFW Mirror of Minds takes 5 wounds off the Daemon Prince.

I blew 2 CPs on Warp Surge, but the Daemon Prince still died to the first round of fusion. That stratagem has never worked out for me.

The Troupe charged the Plaguebearers, but found themselves outmatched. Or at least outnumbered.

The jetbikes charged into the Flesh Hounds.

Overall, a very successful first turn for the Harlequins. On the right flank, they eliminated 2 squads of Flesh Hounds and the Daemon Prince, scoring First Blood. On the left, the Plaguebearers were locked down in melee. At least I rolled a 1 for Morale, denying a tactical objective and gaining 5 back.

Chaos Daemons, turn 2

Bloodletters land to reinforce the right flank. It's not like they had any other good spots, anyway. Warlord Prince goes on top of the building to assault the transport.

Poxbringer was unable to move due to being boxed in by his troops, so instead he summoned another Daemon Prince.

The Warlord Prince killed the transport.
The other Prince made his charge with a CP reroll, and barely killed a Shadowseer. The Suit of Hidden Knives did nothing. A Troupe interrupted, inflicting 1 wound; however, the Storied Sword did a great job, inflicting 6 more wounds, leaving the Prince at 1.

Flesh Hounds charged the other Shadowseer, leaving her at 1 wound.
Bloodletters charged the bikes and a transport, killing exactly 1 bike. Each time I use them, I just get more disappointed.

At least objective scoring went well, with D3 (2) for No Prisoners and 4 for Priority Orders Received (have the Warlord cast a spell).

Harlequins, turn 2

The Troupes moved around, got out of their transports.

Still everything was centered on my right flank. Who wants to battle Nurgle anyway?

The Bloodletters took all the shooting to the face.

At this point, the shopkeeper reminded us that we had 30 minutes to closing time. Well, technically, we were already over the limit, which he graciously extended. At first we thought of ending the game at the end of round 3, but we were really out of time, and so decided to mathhammer it out instead.

Mathhammer

The Harlequins had some points, and statistically should be able to achieve some more: Witch Hunter and Assassinate with the summoned Prince at 1 wound.

However, I was already at 8, and able to seize Objective 2 for just 1 more point. A shaky victory, but a victory nonetheless.

Aftermath

For the first time ever, we were in such a hurry that we couldn't clean up the table. At least we left a nice note for the employee on call the next day, including birthday wishes!

Other stuff to note: The game was pretty balanced. No army was brokenly overpowered compared to the other one. As it often is with Maelstrom, the tactical objectives decided the winner. Of course, there was also the matter of ending the game faster. If played out, the results may have been very different.
The Bloodletter bomb is still very scary looking, but underperforms every time.
Warp Surge is useless. Every. Single. Time.
Summoning is still meh. The Nurgle locus did not come up, but of course the new Prince did not get it.
