Dungeon of the Mad Mage: Crystals, mushrooms, trees...

We ended the previous session just after combat, so we picked up the game looting and foraging for mushrooms. We debated on resting and finally decided on a short rest, as the day was still young[1]. Somewhat rested, we took a good look on the finally revealed map of the 4th level, and went back to a larger cavern we skipped on the way. We flew over a large trench and landed to collect more mushrooms.[2] Then on to this place full of crystals and three large tentacled stone monsters. Roll for initiative!

I asked how high the cavern was, and decided to identify as an Apache attack helicopter. I flew high with Tari behind me, and we launched magics and arrows at the beasts. Seeing that they cannot reach us, they melted into the ground. Ireth flamed the place where they disappeared, scorching a nice bison-shape into the soil. Tari tried to entice them by shooting the crystals, which shattered on impact.

Ireth decided to take her chances on the ground, and Selene went to collect some crystals. They were both attacked by the monsters, appearing from below and above. It took some time, as we were mostly out of spell slots, but we grinded down two of them, with the third one escaping through the ground. We harvested 39 pieces of crystals, worth some gold.

After this slow grind, we decided to take the rest of the day off. I suggested we retreat to Azok's goblintown, but the way up was blocked by a cave-in. We heard pickaxes at work from the other side, but there was no immediate way to go through. We went to rest in the dark elf area instead. I took the time to learn some new spells.

In the morning, I raised some skeletons, and we went on our merry way, into another large cavern housing an underground forest. A large tentacled worm snuggled right in the middle of it. We tried to see if it's intelligent - but it did not answer, it only attacked. We killed it.

While I waited for the paralyzing venom to run its course[3], the elves of the party looked for more mushrooms.

Ireth discovered some sort of mound - an igloo made of mud and leaves, some sort of natural abode. I went in to look around for stuff, triggering the forest to animate and attack us.

Good think Ireth had Blight prepared, and killed off a tree each round[4]. We managed to cut down the rest with arrow, blade and fire.

[1] Metaphorically speaking, underground.
[2] Still not enough for some useful potions.
[3] Tentacled hugs!
[4] I wonder about any moral implications.
