Nuns with heavy weapons (black habit)

Introduction

Same Kickstarter, same minis, just with heavy weapons.

Pinning

The lookouts came in two pieces, so I pinned, them just in case.

Sandbags

I used this wonderful product from GreenStuffWorld. Note that you need to follow the instructions carefully; if you don't cut the packaging, water will barely penetrate it. Also make the PVA bath about 1:1 with water, otherwise it will just dry and your sandbags will fall apart again. Even so, they tend fall apart at any sort of rougher handling. And a bag of 50 nets about what's seen below. I ended up recasting these barricades using blue stuff and Milliput also from GreenStuffWorld.

Assembly

Here's a squad of autocannons. Two loaders with crates of ammo and a lookout; recast sandbags glued on with UHU; putty spread around the base of the sandbags to hide the flat bottom of the casts; extra pouches from the nuns glued on the bags using Loctite Gel to compensate for any spacing.

Some more embellishments include these candles from GSW as well as some WW2 German grenades which I bought for space marines but they turned out to be too small.

Painting

Most details are same as the regular nuns. However, this time I did not have leftover pre-painted cobblestone bases, so I pinned the models before priming, and painted the cobblestones first

They have other details as well, such as the aforementioned sandbags, satchels and candles.

Basecoat the sandbags with Aggaros Dunes.

Drybrush Filthy Brown.

Light drybrush Bonewhite.

Basecoat the leather bags Snakebite Leather.

Highlight Filthy Brown.

Basecoat the grenades Tinny Tin.

Highlight Polished Gold.

Paint the buttons on the bags Chainmail Silver.

Basecoat the candles Grey Seer.

Cover in diluted Basilicanum Grey.

Highlight Dead White. Also paint the flame.

Paint the flame Iyanden Yellow.

Muzzle flash

For something I different, I created muzzle flash for the Heavy Bolters using sponge.

First, pin the barrel.

Cut off some roughly triangular shapes using scissors.

Rough them up using your fingers, then glue to the pins with superglue.

Paint the base of the flash with Sun Yellow. This works best if the paint is watered down a bit, as the sponge will suck it in. Note that it will take some time to dry.

Orange Fire next.

Finally, paint the ends with Grey Seer, but leave some black behind. This is the smoke part.

After varnish

Any targeting lenses get Soulstone Blue, just like everyone else in the nun force. The lascannon firing lens gets Blood for the Blood God! instead.

Finished!
