For variety, my second game of 11th edition was... also Priority Assets vs Disruption, but this time against Custodes. I brought the same list, with infantry on the right flank ready to take the middle, and heavy hitters on the left.
Tanks and bikes with Sisters of Silence but not too many custodians on foot.
Battle round 1
The Custodes drew A tempting target and I, without thinking, designated the objective on my side of the board. A squad of Sisters was chosen to be sacrificed for the points, also getting the Burden of Trust. I obliged and obliterated them.
I also took a shot at the Rhino holding the middle, but it made a lot of saves. I sent in my Kasrkin in the truck to do a Sensor Sweep for some points.
Battle round 2
With Defend Stronghold and Display of Might, the Custodes only had to kill my units for now. They shot off all the light vehicles including the Hellhound with 1+ save, and then bikes charged the exposed Kasrkin then ran back to hide. Sigh.
I couldn't do anything against Defend Stronghold, but I could advance into the middle and retaliate. Secondaries were unfeasible and indeed I scored 0. But I brought out the Rough Riders with Leontina to kill off a pushy Rhino, and the Dorn with infantry support killed off some bikers.
I also assaulted Terminators on the right with Cadians, leaving 1 alive with 2 wounds after shooting. The girls bravely charged in, but failed to kill the survivor.
Battle round 3
All the Custodes came out of hiding, slaughtering my infantry on the right and denting my middle. Easy points for Outflank. Also at this point there was only a single marker, also giving many primary points.
I brought back the victory points to about equality by sending in Gaunt's Ghosts into the now-empty Custodes backfield, charging some Sisters and taking the home objective. This yielded Behind Enemy Lines and Forward Positions. One surviving cadian commander passed her battleshock and plundered on the far right. I also shot up some things.
However, as round 4 started, I lost my remaining pieces in the middle and conceded. Strangely reminiscent of the first game.
I still enjoy the edition with the open terrain now more useful for tanks. Secondaries and such are still great, with options to score them later or take a couple of points immediately.
The primaries cause a headache. I realized we did almost everything wrong in the first game... but such is life. At least we had fun.
